Designed Around How Film Is Made
The building’s design reflects how film production works in practice.
Large studio spaces form the majority of the space within the building, while workshops and support spaces are arranged around them to allow efficient movement of people, equipment and materials. This layout helps reduce delays and encourages collaboration between different creative teams.
A shared internal logistics route links key areas of the building, making it easier to move between spaces while also creating opportunities for informal interaction.
National Film and Television School at Camden Film Quarter
The National Film and Television School (NFTS) will play an important role at Camden Film Quarter, bringing world-leading training and industry expertise into the heart of the development.
NFTS is one of the UK’s leading film schools, known for developing the next generation of directors, producers, writers and technical specialists. Its presence at Camden Film Quarter will create opportunities for people to learn directly alongside a working film and television environment, helping bridge the gap between education and industry.
Through dedicated training spaces within the studio building, NFTS will offer specialist courses, workshops and professional development programmes. These will support both emerging talent and those already working in the industry, while also creating opportunities for collaboration with productions taking place on site.
By embedding NFTS within Camden Film Quarter, the development strengthens its role as a place for learning, creativity and career development, connecting local people and future talent with real opportunities in the screen industries.
A Place to Create and Collaborate
The Beehive is the collaborative heart of the Camden Film Studio Building, a dynamic workspace designed to bring people together and support creative exchange.
Located between the two main studio areas, it acts as a central hub where different teams can connect, share ideas and work alongside each other. Open, connected spaces, including bridges, atriums and shared areas, create a sense of visibility and movement throughout the building.
This layout encourages informal interaction and collaboration, helping writers, designers, producers and creatives from across the industry to come together in one place.
By breaking down traditional barriers between departments, the Beehive creates a more open and connected way of working, supporting creativity at every stage of the filmmaking process.
On-Site Accommodation
Located in the upper glazed levels of the studio building, the on-site accommodation provides a seamless extension of the production environment.
It includes 125 suites, rooms and green rooms, designed to support cast, crew and production teams working on site. Arranged around planted internal courtyards, these spaces offer a calm and comfortable setting within the energy of the studios.
With 24/7 access to the sound stages, the accommodation allows teams to live and work in one place, helping productions run more smoothly and efficiently.
A dedicated entrance and lobby from Regis Road ensures secure and private access, while still maintaining a connection to the wider Camden Film Quarter.
When not in use by productions, the accommodation can also be made available to visitors, helping to support the local economy and ensuring the building remains active and useful throughout the year.
Built for Flexibility and the Future
The structure of the building is designed to support large, open studio spaces without internal columns, giving maximum flexibility for different types of productions.
It has also been designed to adapt over time, ensuring it can respond to new technologies and changing ways of working in the creative industries.
Overall, the Camden Film Studio Building is more than just a production space — it is a complete creative ecosystem, bringing together making, learning and collaboration in one landmark building at the heart of Camden Film Quarter.
Cultural Space at the Film Studio Building
At the heart of the Camden Film Studio Building is a new cultural space that opens up the world of filmmaking to the public.
Film studios are usually closed and highly secure, but this space has been designed to do the opposite, giving residents and visitors a chance to explore how films are made and experience the creative process up close. It transforms the building into not just a place of production, but a cultural destination for Kentish Town.
Located across the ground floor, first floor and part of the lower level, the space will function as a museum and interactive exhibition dedicated to film and television.
Visitors will be able to explore everything from early cinema to modern digital production, with displays and installations showcasing areas such as set design, costumes, editing and sound. Carefully designed viewing points will also offer glimpses into parts of the working studio, giving a real sense of how productions come together.
Inside, flexible areas will host workshops, talks, screenings and events, working with local schools, universities and creative organisations. Larger gallery spaces on the upper level will allow for changing exhibitions and public programmes throughout the year.
By bringing together production and public engagement, the cultural space creates a unique opportunity for the community to connect with the film industry, making Camden Film Quarter a place not just to make films, but to experience and celebrate them too.
