The Story of Camden Film Quarter
A new chapter in Kentish Town’s long history of industry, creativity and innovation.
Location
The Camden Film Quarter is located in Kentish Town in the London Borough of Camden, approximately 4 km north of central London. The site sits just west of Kentish Town Road and is surrounded by the railway lines that connect London to St Pancras and King’s Cross.
For visitors to London, Kentish Town lies between the vibrant cultural district of Camden Town to the south and the open green landscape of Hampstead Heath to the north. With strong Underground, rail and bus connections, the area is easily accessible from across the capital and further afield.
History
Kentish Town has always been shaped by movement, industry and making. In the nineteenth century, the arrival of the railways transformed the area into an important industrial district serving a rapidly expanding London. Workshops, depots and warehouses grew along the railway corridors, forming a working landscape that supported the city’s growth behind the scenes. The Regis Road area became part of this network, a place of storage, logistics and municipal services that kept Camden running. Over time, the surrounding neighbourhood has evolved into one of London’s most vibrant and creative districts. Yet the industrial character of the site remains an important reminder of Kentish Town’s working heritage.
Regis Road Today
Today the site continues to function as a service and operational hub for Camden. It currently accommodates facilities such as the Regis Road Recycling Centre, council depots and a range of industrial buildings and storage yards. While these uses remain important, the area is relatively disconnected from the surrounding neighbourhood due to railway infrastructure and large industrial plots. This presents a rare opportunity to reimagine how the site could better connect with Kentish Town and contribute to Camden’s future.
Planning for the Future
Camden Council has identified the Regis Road area as a key growth location within the borough. The site is designated as the Regis Road Growth Area in the Camden Local Plan (2017), supporting employment-led regeneration and new mixed-use development. To guide future change, Camden Council adopted the Regis Road Area Guidance Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on 10 March 2025, building on the earlier Kentish Town Planning Framework (2020). The guidance sets out a long-term vision for transforming the area into a new mixed-use neighbourhood, delivering homes, employment space, improved public spaces and stronger connections with surrounding communities. It also recognises the opportunity for the area to support creative and knowledge-based industries, building on Camden’s reputation as one of London’s most dynamic cultural boroughs.
Camden Film Quarter
In January 2023, Yoo Capital secured a subject-to-planning land agreement with the London Borough of Camden for the Holmes Road Depot and Regis Road Recycling Centre site. This means that Yoo Capital will acquire the land once planning permission for redevelopment is granted.
Following this agreement, Yoo Capital also secured interests in additional land around Regis Road, enabling a comprehensive approach to planning for the wider area.
Between 2023 and 2025, Yoo Capital worked closely with Camden Council, local residents, community groups and stakeholders to develop a Masterplan Vision for the wider Regis Road area. This process included multiple rounds of public consultation, workshops and community engagement events to shape the proposals in response to local feedback.
Alongside plans for state-of-the-art film and television studios and creative production space, the masterplan proposes new homes, public spaces, improved streets and a range of employment opportunities, creating a vibrant new neighbourhood where creative production, living and community life come together.
The vision aims to help position Camden at the heart of the UK’s rapidly growing screen industry, while delivering new homes, skills opportunities and public spaces for the local community.
Following this process, the Camden Film Quarter planning application was submitted in October 2025.
